About this web site
This web site is not a systematic history of Clintonville and Beechwold–far from it. It contains “out-takes”—images and bits of information that I gathered while writing my Arcadia history book, Clintonville and Beechwold. For one reason or another, the items here could not be included in the book. Sometimes the stories just didn’t fit; sometimes I couldn’t confirm the information; sometimes the images did not meet my publisher’s high standards. Nevertheless, the images and stories are interesting and, I think, valuable to the community. As I gather additional information, I’ll post that as well.

On this web site you can purchase the book, which has been available since January 12, 2009. And, check back soon for some bicycle/walking tours of Clintonville.

What book?
Clintonville and Beechwold is a pictorial history of Clintonville, published by Arcadia Publishing in its “Images of America” series. It was published on January 12, 2009 and can be purchased from this web site.

Jennifer Nesbitt wrote a nice article about the book project when it was just getting underway, for the Clintonville edition of ThisWeek (Community Newspaper).

Who am I?
Shirley Hyatt, a long-time resident of Clintonville. My articles have appeared in professional journals, and from 2006 to 2009 I wrote a column called “Ghosts of Columbus” for Angie’s List Magazine about old buildings in central Ohio. My book, Clintonville and Beechwold, a pictorial history of Clintonville and Beechwold, Ohio, was published by Arcadia Publishing in January, 2009. I have been a member of the Ohio Historical Society my entire adult life and I’m a member of the Clintonville Historical Society as well. I spend my leisure time camping, hiking, bicycling, identifying wildflowers and wild mushrooms, and reading.

The fine print
Reproduction rights for the images on this web site belong to the people who own the original photographs. The digital images included here are almost exclusively low resolution thumbnails to help protect the owners’ rights. Please don’t reproduce or download these images for other purposes without the original owner’s permission.

I used to arrange the entries on this web site in rough chronological (historical) order. That was prior to December 26, 2013. This means that the dates you see below each post’s title prior to December 26, 2013 don’t represent when I posted the entry; they’re just my kludgey method of imposing historical order. I put new entries among older entries and announced what’s new with a “Recent Postings” category. That plan didn’t work out–way too much effort! Nowadays I just post things approximately once per month, sometimes linked to the season, sometimes as it comes into my inbox.

This web site does not duplicate the content of my Clintonville and Beechwold book. The book contains fresh, higher-quality images, and more systematic information. I hope you’ll consider buying it.
