Olentangy Park Casino

Admittedly, this is a not a great image of the casino at Olentangy Park! But it is the only one I have and so I’m glad to have it. It is from The Book of Ohio.

I do not know what the gambling consisted of at the park.

  1. Tom Thacker Says:

‘Casino’ was a term often used for buildings that housed any type of amusement, not just gambling, so it was probably more of a general purpose building.

  2. Paul Da Silva Says:

I don’t think they actually gambled in it. It could have held card games maybe, and possibly with gambling, but more likely there was dancing, socializing, small concerts in this “casino”. Casino didn’t begin to mean specifically a gambling house until Vegas became popular in the 1930s, which was toward the end of Olentangy’s run. Still, like you, I do wonder what kinda of things would have went on in a building like this on hot summer day 100 years ago.
