Elford Company Develops Beechwold
Elford Inc., a commercial construction company located near Grandview on Dublin Road, celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2010.
To mark the occasion, the company published a 70-page hardcover book detailing Elford’s history, from its founding by Edward “Pop” Elford in 1910 to today. It’s available as a PDF here. The book chronicles the company’s history decade by decade, focusing on the marquee projects of each decade.
From a Clintonville and Beechwold perspective, the following are standouts:

I believe that Anderson Concrete Co. was located just north of Hudson St. between Silver Dr. and the railroad tracks. I carried papers for the old Citizen Journal in the area around N. 4th in 1956-7.
There was also a lumber company just west of the tracks across from Anderson’s at the time. I don’t remember their name. I think that the large green building that is on the NE corner of Hudson and N. 4th was part of that company.
Hello to my former Acton Road neighbor Gary! I don’t know about Hudson Street as a location for an Anderson factory, but I vividly recall the Anderson aggregate factory and its conveyor belts towering behind the Olympic Swim & Racquet Club when I was growing up. Shirley has a photo of this on page 120 of her splendid book about Clintonville.
