Bowling

There were at least 3 bowling alleys in Clintonville: Olentangy Bowling Center (shown here), where Giant Eagle is today; at Graceland (northwest end), and also on the east side of High Street between Oakland Park and Dunedin. Hanging out at bowling alleys was a big deal for many teenagers—whether you bowled or not was immaterial. (Photo courtesy of Galen Gonser)

The Olentangy bowling alley also housed a very large gun range in the basement. After years of use it was discovered that lead dust had permeated the entire building making it uninhabitable without extensive remediation. Surprise, surprise the building burned down.

I sure do miss this bowling alley. I remember taking bowling as a junior at North High School in place of gym. It was a great hang out for my friends and I. Wish they would put another bowling alley in the Clintonville area.
