Two Theatres

Nice images of Indianola Theatre and Clinton Theatre. The Indianola Theatre (now called Studio 35) was an independent theatre from the get-go; it opened at 3055 Indianola Avenue on February 17, 1938.

The Neth Clinton Theatre opened January 1, 1925 at 3379 North High Street.

I watched many movies at both theatres during the time I lived in Columbus from 1955 (when I was born) until around 1979 (when I graduated from O.S.U.). I think that the first movie I saw at Clinton Theatre was “Beau Geste,” at least I remember that one. Admission was $0.25, if I remember correctly. Studio 35 did not originally serve beer during the movies, but it sure was a nice addition to the experience. (I don’t remember exactly when it opened its bar, but I must have been in college.) It definitely was an independent theatre, as I remember it showed European Art films. I even watched some avant-garde films by Andy Warhol there.
