Mathias Armbruster

Two articles are often mentioned as sources for information about Mathias Armbruster. I thought I’d archive them here.

Leeann Faust wrote this wonderful article about her great grandfather Mathias Armbruster. It was originally published in the Polar Bear ROARS Alumni Association (=North High School) newsletter.

Karl Pauly wrote this column way-back-when, about Walhalla ravine–which Armbruster was instrumental in designing, or at the very least, naming. (First article of Leeann Faust; second article courtesy of the Clintonville Historical Society)

Reaching out for Armbruster family artifacts to see or photograph for my daughters and myself. I am 80 years old and as far as I know the last living great grandson of Mathias Armbruster. Is there a Clintonville Museum where we might see some of the Armbruster paintings, drawings, etc. that we might visit? Did Leeann Faust leave any Armbruster artifacts to the Clintonville Museum? Is there a Clintonville Museum building and where is it located? When is it open? Thanks for any information you have. Don A. Armbruster

Hi Don, I think you and I exchanged emails in November 2017. There is no Clintonville Museum, though there is a Clintonville Historical Society. LeeAnn donated many of the Mathias Armbruster artifacts to OSU (Ohio State University). I know that OSU has some photos of Mathias Armbruster and his children, and some original set designs, drawing and paintings done by Mathias and his Studio. You should contact them directly–I’d try the OSU Archive first, then the Theatre Department. I’ve heard that some items were distributed by Leeann’s estate to family members in Alaska and Ohio. But that’s about all I can tell you. You are welcome to download any family photos from my web site–all of these were lent to me for scanning, by Leeann.
Good wishes for your quest! –Shirley
